Albany Child Is Killed, 7 Others Hurt in Crash
Car carrying 8 Overturns on Lower Plains Saturday.
A four-year-old boy was killed and seven persons injured late Saturday night when the car in which all eight persons were riding overturned on Route 682 at the Lower Plains.
Killed instantly was Homer Charles Sinclair, Jr., four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs Homer Sinclair of near Albany . Doctors at Sheltering Arms Hospital said the child died instantly of a fractured neck. he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Also taken to the hospital for treatment were Homer Sinclair, 21, his wife, Violet, 25; Ray Willison, 43, Millfield Route 1; Mrs. Anita Barnhouse, 18, Albany, and her two children, Robert Harold Barnhouse, age seven months and Mary age 2, and William Bolin, 45, Albany, driver of the car.
Hospital attaches said Monday that six of the injured remained there, Bolin, Mr. and Mrs. Sinclair, Mrs. Barnhouse and her two children, but none were reported to be critically hurt.
The accident was investigated by State Patrolman William Greenlee and Sheriff George [prateman]. The officer's said that Bolin was northbound on Route 682 when he lost control of his car, after making a curve at the crest of a hill and starting down the other side.
The 1941 model two door sedan careened across the road, went into a ditch at the left side of the highway and then overturned, end over end until it hit a tree in the yard of the Herbert Shiedls residence, near the Zion Church .
Neighbors summoned the sheriff and patrol after the vehicle came to rest on its top, the front portion flattened. Some of the injured had to be pulled from the twisted wreckage.
Patrolman Greenlee said the group was enroute to the Willison home near Sugar Creek when the accident happened. Mrs. Barnhouse is a step-daughter of Willison. Her husband is in service in Korea . Investigation of the accident is still underway.
Services for the Sinclair child will be conducted Wednesday, 2 p.m., at the Ewing Funeral home, Pomeroy. Survivors include his paents, former Pomeroy residents, and his grandmothers, Mrs. Nettie Meeks, Syracuse , and Mrs. Grace Landers, of Pomeroy. Friends may call at the funeral home.
